Some events are held jointly with other Chambers. The Chamber also provides its members with networking breakfasts called Joint Business Exchange Breakfasts. These events include four to six business organizations. • Business Directory - all members receive a free listing with the possibility of purchasing advertising space. The Chamber prints 20,000 copies annually and distributes one to each home in the 21146 zip code and selected areas of Arnold, Millersville and Pasadena. • Member-to-member discount program. • Business mentoring program. This program is available to assist businesses by sharing information, assistance, and expertise "member-to-member." • S.U.N. (Support Unlimited Network) Groups, which meet on a regular basis, and pass business leads/referrals to other members of their group. • Monthly newsletter "Getting Down to Business." Members can advertise in the newsletter, or participate with an article in the "Spotlight". • Seminars and educational programs are frequently sponsored by the Chamber throughout the year. Many are free - or offered at a nominal fee - to Chamber members. • Our website at www.severnaparkchamber.com offers members additional exposure and further possibilities to promote their businesses. • Professional Recognition. The GSPCC participates in the U.S. Small Business Administration's annual awards program. A Legislative "Voice" • Our Legislative Committee keeps the members posted on important legislative issues which affect our area, small business, and the growth and economic welfare of our County. Active Involvement in the Community • We are responsible for the three "Welcome to the Community" signs. These signs include the emblems of other Severna Park civic associations. • We have sponsored beautification programs for the community including seasonal clean-ups. • We sponsor the annual Independence Day Parade and Festival. • The Chamber sponsors a Holiday Tree Lighting event and Open House in early December each year. * We provide "Welcome to the Park" bags for new residents. • Our Community-Police Relations Program, which we operate in cooperation with Anne Arundel County Police, is a business-to-business program set up to alert businesses to suspicious activities, vandalism or criminal activity and has representatives from all commercial areas in the Greater Severna Park area. ________________________________________ The Chamber feels a strong sense of loyalty to the local community and sponsors local events, as well as participating in the projects of other organizations. Since 1974 the Chamber has sponsored the annual Independence Day Parade. The Fire Department, businesses, communities, politicians, and residents participate in full force to produce floats and decorated cars for the parade. Benfield and Evergreen Roads, as well as Severna Park Village are lined with viewers. Children on decorated bicycles join the parade at Holly Avenue and prizes are awarded for the bicycles decorated most beautiful, most original and most patriotic. A Festival follows the parade and in 2006 the Festival returned to its original location, Cypress Creek Park. This event is chaired by Susan Taylor (PNC Bank) and Rick Sutton (The Bank of Glen Burnie).
